COMMENT - Steward showed courage in adversity

FULL credit must go to the Wigan football steward who was trampled on by a horse on Monday night at Preston’s game with Blackpool.

Around 200 home supporters invaded the pitch at full-time, with many heading straight to the travelling supporters to goad them after the 1-0 win.

Blackpool manager Paul Ince has criticised the stewards but he couldn’t be more wrong.

The staff on duty showed real guts to stand up to the so-called fans who were only interested in causing trouble.

Mr Entwistle was certainly no different to that.

He was clearly shown on television restraining one supporter and stopping him from getting into the away end before he was trampled on by two horses.

Thankfully his injuries weren’t too server and he was able to walk off.

But had the hooves landed inches higher, the incident could have seen a much more devastating outcome.

Mr Entwistle deserves nothing but praise for his bravery on Monday evening.
