MANY public bodies have opened themselves up by using social media, keeping residents updated through sites such as Twitter.
Wigan’s fire crews have launched their own feed to coincide with Bonfire Night and it is an ideal opportunity for them to show us how busy this time of year is.
Fire safety is crucial all year round but the message is always prominent during the Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night period.
Perhaps the tweets tonight by the borough’s crews will show people the invaluable service our brave firefighters provide – if they are not already aware.
Everyone in Wigan can help them out by only attending organised bonfire events and taking safety messages seriously.
The awful weather over the weekend may have dampened spirits as well as bonfire parties but let’s hope enthusiasm does not spill over into recklessness for the next few days.
As the tweets will show, the fire services have a tough job and we can all do our bit to reduce the number of call outs.
