'I nearly choked on pheasant listening to Queen's speech'
This Christmas I did something I can’t recall ever doing, I had no option but to sit through the Queen’s speech.
We were at a friend’s house, and he loves all that royal stuff.

I must admit I never heard much of what the Queen said at the start.
I was too busy gawping at her front room. She certainly didn’t get her furnishings from Dunelm.
This is our hereditary monarch, who claims millions a year in benefits from the taxpayer, not counting the millions spent on royal protection.

I nearly choked on my pheasant.

Dechox for heart charity
This is a call-out to all chocoholics, cocoa bean lovers and confectionary enthusiasts!
A suggestion, a plea, an idea that will exercise willpower and strength whilst helping those in the North West who are living with heart and circulatory diseases…
Dechox!
I’m asking the people of the North West to forget the ordinary New Year detoxes, which attempt to banish all pleasure during the darkest months of the year, and instead just cut one beloved item from your pantry throughout the month of February – chocolate.

Money raised by those brave enough to take on the challenge will go towards the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) life-saving research into heart and circulatory diseases.
Last year, we saw over 18,000 chocolate lovers raise an astounding £1m towards vital research, but with your help, we think we can raise even more in 2019.
We’re all familiar with the struggle of saying no to the left-over Celebrations sitting on the coffee table.
But by standing up to heart and circulatory disease and saying NO to chocolate this February, we’ll be one step closer to beating heartbreak forever!
Sound like a battle you want to be a part of?

Hide AdMeningitis Research Foundation (MRF) would like to invite your readers to take up a charity place for The Big Half, taking place in London on Sunday, March 10, 2019.
Public entries sold out quickly for The Big Half - a half marathon from London Marathon Events Ltd which shares much of its 13.1 mile route with the world famous London Marathon - but you can still enter with an MRF charity place and join the fight against meningitis and septicaemia.
Anyone looking for a New Year challenge is welcome to apply for a charity place with MRF, regardless of whether they’ve been affected by the disease personally or not.
The Big Half is set to be a celebration at the heart of London with DJs, bands, food and plenty of colour along the route.

Meningitis and septicaemia are deadly diseases that strike without warning. One in ten people affected will die and a third of survivors will be left with after-effects, some as serious as brain damage or hearing loss. Babies, toddlers and teenagers are the most at risk but anyone can be affected.
The money that runners raise will help support MRF’s lifesaving research into the prevention, detection and early treatment of meningitis and septicaemia and will allow the charity to continue raising awareness and supporting those affected.
