MAY sees the launch of a year of Bio-events that celebrates Wigan’s unique mixture of habitats and wildlife species – from the humble bumble to the magnificent marsh harrier Wigan has it all!
WLCT in partnership with a number of organisations and most importantly local communities are hosting some very special events to bring you closer to the ‘wildlife on your doorstep’.
Events will include:
Bat Watching, using the latest technology not only will we hear the bats but watch their incredible flying skills whist they are hunting.
Life Within a Wetland, accessing areas not usually open to the public to see how they work.
BioBlitz at Three Sisters LNR, join us and some local experts to see just how many animal and plant species can be recorded during a 12 hour ‘blitz!
Creatures of the Night, discover what is out and about during the darkest hours of the night.
Wigan’s Great Bird Race, put together a team of three and join us in competing to see how many bird species can be seen in a 24 hour period.
Bees, Beautiful Bees, join us and a local bee keeper to discover what dramas occur in a hive
Wildlife Photography For Beginners, a free course to learn the techniques to photographing wildlife.
Wetland Custodians and Woodland Custodians Sunday May 5, 2013 will see the launch of a chance for people to play an important role in protecting and enhancing Wigan’s regionally and nationally important Wetlands and Woodlands.
Call in at the Information Centre at Three Sisters Recreation Area between 11am and 3pm to find out more and how to be a part of it.
