WIGAN broadcaster Stuart Maconie is celebrating after he has contributed to a musical phenomenon.

New figures reveal that more than one billion BBC radio programmes have been downloaded since the launch of the corporation’s podcast service in 2007.

To mark the milestone Stuart, who presents a show on 6 Music with Mark Radcliffe, is one of a host of BBC presenters to chose their favourite podcast moments for a special download.

Other contributors include 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne, Radio 1’s Matt Edmondson and 5 Live’s Richard Bacon.
