A WIGAN cancer patient was given a parking ticket as she attended a church service.
Debbie Jones of Gidlow Lane came out of Sunday morning mass at St Mary and John’s Church on Standishgate to find a fixed penalty notice on her car windscreen by National Clamps.
The 47-year-old had parked her Nissan Note on Brick Kiln Lane next to some bollards, aware that all the businesses nearby were closed at the weekend.
Mrs Jones says she had also placed her blue disabled badge on the dashboard in full view but was still hit with an £80 fine.
She said: “I have parked there for more than a year now and this has never happened.
“I can’t really park anywhere else as I can’t walk very far due to my illness, and I get out of breath easily.”
Mrs Jones, who has attended the church for decades, is suffering with cancer and says discovering the parking ticket left her very distressed and angry.
She added: “This isn’t something that I need right now, I can’t be worrying whether I can pay the ticket or not.
“The parking sign also said ‘no parking from Monday to Saturday’ but I parked here on a Sunday.”
National Clamps refused to comment.
