It has now received the backing of Aspull’s three ward councillors, who have awarded grants from their Brighter Borough funds.

Coun Laura Flynn said: “This is a great venture. Sport is very important to us all and with me having two young daughters, I’m over the moon.”

Dave said the support the club received from the ward councillors was “unbelievable”.

The club is actively recruiting women and girls from age 11 for the 2022-23 season, which starts next month.

Promotional material and banners will be hoisted around the village and wider areas of Wigan.
