Festive meals are delivered for vulnerable Standish residents

Standish ward councillors and Standish Voice, part of Standish Coronavirus Help, are delivering 70 free Christmas meals to vulnerable residents in Standish.

Their deliveries have included to 89-year-old Joan Snape, of Bentham Road, who has been shielding since March.

Gill Foster, from Standish Voice, along with local councillors Ray Whittingham and Coun Debbie Parkinson met recently with Kirsty Norris and Kevin Bath, both from Hinds Head pub in Charnock Richard, to make the delivery to Ms Snape.

Coun Parkinson said: “The three of us councillors and Standish Voice were involved with setting up Covid support group for Standish.

“We launched a Crowdfunding page to raise money and help the vulnerable.

Volunteers have been shopping all the way through for residents and we’ve got some money left, so we decided to deliver Christmas dinners and puddings.

She added: “I’d like to thank everyone involved including Kevin from the Hinds Head pub.”

The Covid-19 support group has raised a total of £2,600 since it was set up at the start of the first national lockdown in March.
