A large fire on a patch of farmland was prevented from spreading by fire services and the landowner.
Firefighters from Wigan station were called to the scene near Meadow Pit Lane shortly before 1am this morning, Wednesday.
Members of the public reported seeing billows of smoke some distance away from the farm.
The source of the fire was clean wood based on the farm, but no cause as to how it started has been confirmed.
An onsite digger was used by the landowner to help clear the burning wood, and the remainder of the fire was put out by firefighters using water.
It took crews two hours to extinguish the fire.
There was no livestock on the farm during the fire, which was described as a “bonfire” by an on-duty firefighter.
