David Webb, 25, completed a “10 for 10” challenge where he ran a 10k route for 10 consecutive days, raising funds for the newly-established Three Wishes Charity Healthcare Heroes Fund.

The paralegal said: “My new ‘normal’ is to work from home so I decided to use my daily exercise allowance to run a daily 10k and raise money for the charity at the same time.

“I chose the Three Wishes Healthcare Heroes Fund as a gesture of appreciation to all NHS staff workers, particularly those on the frontline caring for people with coronavirus.”

David finished the 10k challenge saying not only had it benefitted the charity, but his mental health too.

He said: “I feel really positive after finishing the challenge and it has helped my mental health.

“I have boosted my own self confidence and realised that mental health is just as important as physical health.

“I am grateful to family, friends my neighbours and my girlfriend Tamisha for all their generosity and I hope to do more activities for charity again – watch this space.”

A spokesperson for WWL said: “We’re very honoured that David chose to donate the funds he has raised during his challenge to the new Healthcare Heroes fund.

“We would like to say a big thank you and well done on his amazing achievement.”

The WWL Healthcare Heroes Fund was set up for staff welfare following several enquiries from the local community asking how they could help. Donations to this fund will then go on to support WWL staff and their well-being through the pandemic and beyond.

As Baroness Barran said in a House of Lords debate this week on the importance of journalists: "Not only are they a trusted source of facts, but they will have a role to play in rallying communities and getting the message across about how we can keep ourselves and our families safe, and protect our NHS. Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."

But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis. In return we will continue to forensically cover the local news - not only the impact of the virus but all the positive and uplifting news happening in these dark days.
