Behind the webslinger’s mask is not Peter Parker but actually McKenzie Fisher, a 13-year-old from Poolstock, who has raised more than £1,000 for the NHS through his heroic efforts.

McKenzie first donned the red and blue superhero costume to surprise his wrestling coach Mike Grundy’s young son on his birthday.

He took to the streets to perform back flips, hand stands and Spiderman’s famous creepy crawly movements, and got as close as safely possible to the young children who were beaming at the sight of their favourite superhero.

Mike offered to pay McKenzie for his efforts, but the humble teen asked for the money to be donated to the NHS instead. A delighted Mike posted the news of the gesture on social media, and McKenzie was quickly inundated with requests from parents to come and visit their children too!

He has since been spending his spare time performing for residents across Wigan, bringing with him a bucket to collect donations for the health service.

The Hawkley Hall High School pupil said: “It’s been really good, all the kids are loving it and lots of people are making donations to the NHS!”

Proud mum Kirstie said: “I’ve had all his teachers ringing me saying how proud they are! He used to do parties but since everything that’s going on, he’s now going down the streets. My phone is on fire!

“Even when it was pouring down he still went, he’s been brilliant.”

She added: “McKenzie isn’t too big like a full grown man, so the younger kids aren’t scared of him. It’s a really good thing he’s doing and I’m really proud of him.

“He’s got so much confidence. His teachers have been ringing him saying well done. He’s made up. He’s carrying on with it and is all booked up this week. And when everything is all over, he’ll be able to start going into the houses and gardens and do more games with the kids.”

McKenzie made headlines last November when he attended his grandmother Rita Scargill’s funeral on her mobility scooter, which she rode so often that she was given the nickname Madge after the character from the hit TV show Benidorm. McKenzie rode her scooter as part of the procession, leaving all attendees in tears of laughter.
