Sweet treats just a click away for Wiganers

Harwoods Patisserie opened the doors to its first shop just a few days before lockdown began - but luckily sweet lovers can still get their hands on their tasty treats.

Customers flocked to the shop on High Street in Standish on the opening day, buying so many macarons, chocolates and patisserie that they sold out.

But experienced pastry chef Andrew Harwood, who opened the shop with his partner Sarah Frazer, soon got to work creating more delicious dishes.

They are now on sale as the shop remains open as a takeaway during lockdown, with customers reminded to wear a face mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

There are also plans to set up a click-and-collect service via the firm’s website.

Andrew and Sarah set up Harwoods Patisserie two years ago and initially sold their creations at artisan markets and through home deliveries, before deciding they needed to open a shop.

They sell a range of desserts and sweet treats, which could prove to be a great indulgence for people staying at home during lockdown.

Another local business hoping to tempt your tastebudfs is Tracey’s Tea House in Wigan is delivering afternoon tea to cheer people up and keep business going over lockdown.

The business was only set-up in September by Tracey Cooney, of Hillgay Close, Winstanley, selling afternoon tea boxes and and cup cakes.

She is delivering to people’s doorsteps and is asking for payment via bank transfer or PayPal.

People can contact her on the Facebook page to arrange a delivery and payment.

Tracey said: “I have a Facebook page set up, people contact me via Messenger and I advertise on Market Place. I’ve just paid for a professional website which is now complete but just need to be shown how it works before I advertise it.

“I have been doing delivery but due to the recent changes in restrictions I ask for payment via bank transfer or paypal then leave on the doorstep to be safe. I always wear gloves and mask when delivering also.”
