Manchester record label Front and Follow joined forces with radio show and website Gated Canal Community to release music that did not make it onto other compilations.

The project has far exceeded expectations and they have now released two volumes of the music, raising £1,500 and smashing their original £1,000 target.

The next goal is to reach £2,000 for The Brick, which supports people in the borough facing homelessness and poverty.

Justin Watson, founder of Front and Follow and co-presenter of Gated Canal Community, said: “The Isolation and Rejection compilation was born out of thinking about what happened to all the tracks that didn’t make it onto regular compilations. Front and Follow and Gated Canal Community have come together to turn this into an ongoing project to collect, collate, and promote rejected sounds. Artists have supported us from Europe, USA and Australia and a global audience is purchasing our compilation, which is amazing.

“We are thrilled that we have already smashed our target for The Brick, and we are now working towards the new target which we should hit in the coming weeks.”

Louise Green, CEO at The Brick, said: “We were delighted when we heard that the Gated Canal Community and Front and Follow were showing their support for The Brick with such a new and inspirational project. We are all extremely grateful for the funds raised so far.

“Like other small charities, we have faced tough times during the Covid-19 crisis, with a downturn of donations, an end to many fund-raising initiatives and an increase in demand for our services more than ever before.

“I would ask anyone who has a passion or interest in music to check out the Isolation and Rejection compilation. It is not only a new and exciting volume of music, but all of the money raised will help The Brick continue to help those in the community who need it the most right now.”

Artists contributing to the series include Time Attendant, Howlround, Dolly Dolly, Cahn Ingold Prelog, Alison Cotton, Farmer Glitch, Rupert Lally, Sone Institute, The Declining Winter, TVO, Ekoplekz, Kemper Norton and Thomas Ragsdale.
