Wigan athletes visit inspirational mural

Wigan borough athlete Keely Hodgkinson is already a big star but now she's seen herself house-sized.

The Olympic, World and European 800m medal-winner was joined by her mentors Jenny Meadows (herself a middle-distance champion) and husband Trevor Painter travelled to Church Street in Atherton to admire the work created by artists Tony Kelzo and Evan Barlow which celebrates Keely’s recent track successes.

Jenny tweeted a post on her Twitter account with a few pictures of the trio that read: ‘Evening photo shoot as we were passing’, with a loveheart eyes emoji, and Keely retweeted it.

Coun Stuart Gerrard had proposed the idea, approached a number of artists and discussed a location with Atherton Business Partnership.

And the artists worked on the project for 12 hours a day over a 10-day period.
