Wigan business owner sets up competition to win a dream wedding

Bridal shop owner Emma Salisbury, who lives in Aspull, has teamed up with a host of suppliers to offer the perfect day for an engaged couple.

She wants to mark their hard work during the crisis, particularly as her cousin works in A&E at Aintree University Hospital.

Emma, who runs Emma Louise Bridal in Bolton, said: “It’s something to give back. They are working such long hours every day.”

After deciding to launch a competition, Emma spoke to some of the suppliers she works with and word quickly spread, with more people offering their services.

She now has a package which includes a wedding dress, venue, photographer, videographer, bouquets, hair and make-up, live music, DJ, a magician, invitations, transport and a cake.

The prize is thought to be worth around £10,000.

Emma, 42, said: “The suppliers have been unbelievable. I reached out and couldn’t believe how many said yes. I have had lots of people contact me and say they have heard about this and want to join in.”

The competition was launched on Emma Louise Bridal’s Facebook page and entries are pouring in.

Initially it was open to future brides working on the NHS frontline, but Emma opened it up to any engaged NHS worker after a man asked if he could enter.

Participants are asked to like and share the Facebook post, like and share all suppliers on Facebook and Instagram, and write a post about why they should win with a picture of them at work.

Healthcare workers have been sharing photographs of themselves in hospitals and other medical settings, explaining why they would love to win the weddingcompetition.

Emma, who lives with her husband David and four-year-old twin sons Jack and Harry, said: “The stories are unbelievable. Every one I read is so touching.”

The competition is primarily open to couples living in the North West, as that is where the venue and other services are based, though any NHS workers can enter if they are willing to travel.

The deadline for entries is May 20 and the winner will be drawn from a hat and announced on May 22.
