Talented children took to the street to strut their dance moves in aid of NHS workers during the coronavirus crisis.

Mum Rachel Vasaya said her two children Ava, 10 and Lacey, eight, were involved with the fundraising show which took place on their street, Pear Tree Court, in Aspull, recently.

As part of the socially-distanced event, Lacey performed street dancing while Ava did ballet, and the pair were joined by other youngsters in performing.

And Rachel said the children smashed an original fundraising target of £20 to raise £500 for the NHS.

Rachel, 31, said: “We thought that with the lockdown restrictions being lifted so you can go outside in groups of six, that it would be nice for Eva and Lacey to play with the little girls living in the next door but one.

“So they practised dances and songs and decided to do something in the street.

“They practised really hard and went out on the Saturday and performed with most of our street, which is a cul-de-sac, coming out to watch them.

“Ava did ballet while Lacey performed street dancing and I’m so proud of them and the other children.

“They only wanted to raise £20 but have managed to raise £500 through sponsorship and donations.”

Rachel said the children wanted to raise money to thank NHS workers for their hard work during these difficult times.

She said: “They’ve done a fantastic job and we’d always take part in the weekly clap on a Thursday and we thought it would just be a nice idea to raise some money for the NHS to thank them for their hard work. There is a lady in our street who has had coronavirus and we clapped for her one week also, so it’s affected everyone.

“This event was a nice way of bringing people together in what have been difficult times for everyone.”
