Wigan convent is up for sale with plans to turn it into a care village

A historic property used as a convent for more than 70 years has been placed on the market and could be converted into a care village.

CBRE’s operational real estate team in Manchester has been instructed by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur (SND) to market the extensive Lancaster House property and site near

Parbold.

Lancaster House dates back to circa 1845 and has been home to the SND since 1947, with the property substantially extended in the mid-1980s to provide a nursing wing.

It is surrounded by extensive landscaped grounds on a 6.45-acre site

The diminishing size of the order has resulted in the property being surplus to requirements, with existing sisters to be looked after within other convents operated by SND.

There is outline planning permission for the conversion of Lancaster House and stable block, along with redevelopment of the site, to provide a care village with access to assisted living services, including 24-hour support staff. The historic house and stable will be retained.

There will be around 70 apartments and communal facilities, including a dining room/bistro, lounge, hair salon, treatment room, rehabilitation gym and overnight guest accommodation.
