The Team AC Forklifts Christmas family mile was organised on The Line in Standish last year and proved a big hit.

Around 100 fancy dress runners took part, but now, due to the coronavirus crisis, it will take place as a virtual event.

Lee Clark, who runs the club, said: “This year we’re introducing more options, all will be virtual and we will be raising money for various charities, including Wigan and Leigh Hospice, Joining Jack, Three Wishes and Tommy’s.

“Along the way AC Forklifts will be giving away prizes to some lucky participants, such as Team ACF Christmas themed running merchandise and Christmas treats for mums, dads, grans, grandads and the kids!

“There is also going to be a chance to purchase your own event T-shirt or hoody. Part of the purchase fee will go into the charity pot and the T-shirt if ordered early enough will be with you early December.

“Last Christmas, Team ACFs first ever Christmas family mile was a great success. Everyone involved seemed to have a great time and with its being the Sunday before Christmas Day, there was a lot of Christmas spirit and cheer in the air. Over 100 runners of all ages met on the Standish line and took part raising money for the charity, Tommy’s.

“This year, to save me from tears, it’s going to be a virtual one. The good thing about it being a virtual event is that we can introduce more options to all levels of walkers/runners.”

Option one gives participants the chance to run or walk a virtual family mile before Christmas Day, while option two is an opportunity for more hardcore runners or walkers to run or walk every day in December up until December 24 and Christmas Day is optional.

Option three will be a chance to run or walk 25 miles in December before Chistmas Day, while option four will be the same but 25km.

Lee said: “Whichever option you choose, fancy dress is strongly advised on at least one of the runs. You can change your option at any time. If you’ve started option two and it’s not going well or enjoyable then change to three or four at any time - it doesn’t matter, it’s got to be fun.

He added: “All are welcome to join in, I may have to restrict merchandise and prizes to the North West only though. Please get involved - let’ss make it a special fun filled Christmas together.”
