An enterprising young Wigan woman has officially opened the doors of her first ever hair salon.

Abbie Pilkington, 24, has had to wait longer than she would have liked due to lockdown, but has used the time to get things ready.

That has culminated in the opening of her business based on Princess Road, Ashton – and Abbie said she cannot wait to get going.

Abbie, from Platt Bridge, said: “It’s a hairdressing salon mainly but we will do hair extensions and a few beauty treatments and tinting and waxing.

“I got the idea for this in the middle of last year and the project started in November, so it’s been about five months in the making.

“Lockdown has held things back a bit I can’t wait to see what happens now.”

And Abbie, who did an apprenticeship in hairdressing, has spent around £12,000 on getting the salon ready.

She has also taken on her very own apprentice, Libby Harrison, 16, from Ashton, and is confident the venture will be a success.

She said: “I’ve got quite a big clientele in Ashton town centre.

“There are quite a lot of hairdressers there but it’s close to where my clientele are.
