These pictures show the aftermath of an horrific crash on Pemberton Road earlier today which left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

The incident took place at around 11.15 this morning (Thursday) on Pemberton Road, close to the Holmes House Avenue junction between a van and a motorcycle.

Two ambulances and an air ambulance were called to the scene and a motorcyclist was taken to Aintree Hospital - which was on standby for his arrival.

The van driver was taken to Wigan Infirmary but it only believed to have sustained a "very minor injury".

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "The air ambulance was in attendance but no one was airlifting. The motorcyclist was bleeding and has suffered major trauma. It is believed that he hit the windscreen of the van during the collision."
