HOMEOWNERS and businesses were left without water for several hours after a pipe burst near the River Douglas.

United Utilities began receiving reports of water flow being reduced to a trickle or stopping altogether in the WN1 and WN2 postcodes from around 6am on Saturday.

Engineers spotted a leak on Coppull Lane before discovering a burst pipe at around 11.30am.

United Utilities was forced to move water from another part of the system into the affected area in order to restore some level of water flow, but many properties in Swinley were still without running water at 4pm.
