Final plans to transform Robin Park’s Carphone Warehouse into a drive-through KFC have been submitted to the town hall.
Works are well underway to redevelop a section of the retail park with four new units.
Carphone Warehouse will vacate its current building and move into one of the new builds with KFC replacing them.
The Wigan Post revealed details of the switch last year and the latest planning bid is for the final stages of the makeover, including the new shop frontage and a KFC logo “jumbrella”.
Council officers have stated a decision on the plans will be made by the end of April, meaning the new outlet could be trading later in 2017.
The fast-food giant has previously indicated its Standishgate site in the town centre will close before the Robin Park unit opens.
The new builds across the way will be home to Costa and Subway outlets plus EE mobile and the Carphone Warehouse shops.
Having received planning approval last year, the new units are said to generate 40 jobs in a mix of full and part-time positions.
Meanwhile, the town hall has indicated the new development tabled for the other side of the Retail Park - near to the Empire Cinema - remains on track.
No building works have started to date with plans previously stating a 68-room hotel along with a Nando’s and Bella Italia.
This development will prompt a revamp of the current parking facilities with the number of spaces in front of the cinema reduced from 116 to 62 with the addition of an extra 30 behind.
