Wigan Council has commissioned work to begin on the Gidlow Lane play area, which is close to where the road meets Beech Hill Avenue.

The refurbishment will see the replacement of the junior and toddler multi-play unit as well as a new swing set with two flat and two cradle swings, a log traverse, a see-saw and two new roundabouts.

The current aerial zip wire will also be replaced.

Coun Jenny Bullen, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for leisure, said: “We are delighted to be able to invest in Gidlow Lane play area to create a facility that will encourage children to be active, healthy and happy.

“The toddler area will be completely refurbished with new equipment and surfacing, including swings and a multi-unit.

“The current aerial runway is also being replaced.

“We hope to have work completed before the school summer holidays.”

The money from the refurbishment comes from the section 106 agreements construction firms have to sign when planning new housing in order to boost leisure facilities and infrastructure in the area.
