TRANSPORT police have launched a hunt for a pervert who molested a Wigan woman on a train.

The incident happened shortly after 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 12, between Manchester Oxford Road and Chorley as the victim – a 21-year-old woman – travelled on the 4.30pm Buxton to Blackpool North service.

PC Keith Holmes, investigating for British Transport Police, said: “The victim sat in the seat next to a man.

“As the journey progressed the man’s left hand, which had been resting on the seat, moved to touch the woman’s thigh.

“During the journey his hand gradually moved to her hip and, though she tried to move away she was unable to do so and his hand remained on her leg until she left the train at Chorley.

“Unfortunately we do not have CCTV of the incident, but the train was busy and had been delayed leaving Manchester Oxford Road station.

“I am sure someone will have noticed what happened and I am calling on anyone with information to come forward.”

The man was white, in his late 40s or early 50s, with thick dark, greying hair. He was stocky and was wearing a dark blue, pinstripe suit and pink shirt.

It is also thought the man had earlier travelled from Sheffield, as the victim noticed the point of departure on his ticket.

PC Holmes added: “If you recognise the description of the man – or have any other information about the incident please contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

“In all calls please quote log B5/NWA of 18/10/11.”
