Traffic was brought to a standstill after a teenage boy was stood on a railway bridge.

Police were called to the bridge, near Eleanor Street, off Wallgate, at 7.50am, following a call concerned about the boy’s welfare.

Officers talked him down and he has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police closed off the road for about an hour, causing major chaos, with traffic backed up as far as Marsh Green, and Highfield.

The road has since re-opened.
