A MAN suffered serious injury following a stabbing attack near his home in Wigan.
The 30-year-old was in the hallway of a set of flats in Darlington Street East, Ince, when he was attacked with a knife.
He suffered severe cuts to his hand and was taken to Wrightington Hospital where he underwent surgery.
His injuries were described as not life threatening.
Police were called at around 8.40pm on Tuesday, February 28, and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.
He was bailed until April 10, when he will have to return to the police station, pending further inquiries.
A 35-year-old woman was also attacked during the incident.
She suffered a black eye and has spoken of her terror.
She said: “I knew the victim and I saw him running down the street, bleeding. He told me to ring an ambulance, so I did.
“I didn’t see who stabbed him, as he went inside the flat without me. Everything happened inside the building.
“The whole incident has scared me more than anything.
“I thought I was going to get stabbed too. When I saw how bad my friend was and how much blood he lost, the adrenalin kicked in.
“I am scared of being in my house on my own and I hate going out because I have black eyes and I feel intimidated as people stare.
“I didn’t think anything like this would happen in Wigan - this kind of thing happens elsewhere, in Manchester.”
