Police hunt for '˜toothless' robber

A robber missing his front teeth and armed with a knife threatened a Wigan shop assistant.

Detectives are appealing for help to identify the man who fled the scene after the brave staff member refused to hand over any money.

The terrifying raid took place in broad daylight on Sunday July 10 shortly after 11am at Mesnes Road News in Swinley.

A man, who was armed with a blade, entered the store and demanded a quantity of cash, police said.

She refused to hand over the money and raised the alarm.

He left the shop and headed off in the direction of the hospital.

The offender is white, in his mid to late 40s, about 5ft 10ins, of slim build and is missing his front teeth.

He was wearing a blue hooded top with a zip at the front and blue joggers but no image of him has been issued.

Detective Constable Chris Waddicar, from GMP’s Wigan borough, said: “This would have been a frightening situation for the shop assistant and I am extremely thankful no one was injured.

“We are now trying to identify the man and would urge anyone with any information about the incident to please call police.”
