Police to investigate suspicious car blaze

Firefighters were called to a car park on Mealhouse Lane in Atherton at around 2am on Sunday.

They found a dark blue Ford Fiesta well alight and were unable to prevent the car being completely destroyed by the flames.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) attended the scene and are treating the incident as a possible case of deliberate ignition.

The owner was also there and told the emergency services he had not driven the vehicle recently.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to tackle the fire and were at the scene for around an hour.

No other vehicles were involved.
