AN investigation has been launched after a gunman fired a number of shots at a house in Wigan in the early hours.

At around 12.55am this morning (Tuesday), police received a number of calls that gunshots had been heard on Viscount Road, Marsh Green.

On arrival officers found a number of shots having had been fired through the front window of a house.

Moments later a number of further shots were fired in the direction of a man and a woman, but neither was hit.

No-one was injured in either incident and there was no-one in the house at the time.

It is believed the offenders arrived in a dark Volvo saloon car before driving away after the incident.

Detective Inspector Matthew Moore, based at Wigan, said: “It is unbelievable that someone thinks they can spray the front of house with bullets and get away with it.

“These offenders calmly drove up the road, got out of the car and one of them fired a number of shots at the house.

“They then turned the gun in the direction of two people in the street. It’s not known for sure if they were being targeted, but the weapon was fired in their direction.

“Thankfully there was no-one home at the time of the incident and there are no reports of any injuries.

“However, this remains and extremely serious incident and we are continuing to investigate.”
