RUMOURS of a death in Wigan during Mad Friday are unfounded, police say.

Greater Manchester Police were out in full force on Friday night as revellers hit the town.

GMP tweeted that two men were detained after a fight in a nightclub in Wigan, but after several rumours circulated on social media, a spokesman confirmed no-one was seriously hurt.

Police vans were spotted in King Street and officers were in the area, dealing out enforcement.

The tweet read: “2 detained for fighting in Wigan nightclub. A scuffle can escalate into something a lot more serious. Walk away from trouble. #madfriday.”

The force also tweeted that one driver was also arrested for being under the influence of alcohol.

There were also reports of fights in Manchester city centre, Salford and Altrincham, the latter involving 30 people.
