A POLICE car ploughed into a car he had been on his way to assist.

The officer was on his way to help the driver of a Vauxhall Corsa who had been involved in a crash with a Safira car on Manchester Road, Ince, when he skidded into the crashed car.

The incident on Monday created huge tailbacks, lasting for three hours.

The police officer suffered whiplash following the collision. There were no injuries to the driver of the Safira but the driver of the Corsa suffered minor bruising which was caused by his seat belt.

The road returned to normal just after 3pm.
