Police swoop on Wigan newsagents

Police cars were pictured outside the Hooton's newsagents in Church Street, Golborne around 5.30pm today (Monday).

A police helicopter was also spotted hovering above the scene.

Initial reports suggested that an armed robbery had taken place, with some residents even reporting that a hostage situation was ongoing.

However, police have been unable to trace any reports to them of such incidents.

In addition, a relative of the business owner commented online to say that the rumours were false.
