Council officers will be carrying out checks with police over the weekend.

The council tweeted: "Wigan Council is reminding all pubs/club operators to not open their doors this bank holiday under any circumstances. Only businesses supplying essential items should be open. Officers will be carrying out checks with @gmpolice over the weekend #Stayhomesavelives

It comes after people had contacted the council to say some pubs had been defying the lockdown last month, but an inspection found all the premises to be closed.
