Covid-19: Wigan Council in pub spot checks

A council has carried out spot checks on ten Wigan pubs after complaints about them being open during the coronavirus lockdown.

People had contacted Wigan Council to say the pubs had been defying the lockdown, but an inspection found all the premises to be closed.

Pubs, clubs and bars are currently closed to help prevent large gatherings as part of strict government measures to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

The council tweeted: "The council has carried out checks on 10 pubs which we received complaints about being open. We are happy to confirm that all were found to be closed.

"More visits with @gmpolice will continue. Thank you to all businesses which have remained shut and are following guidelines."
