Plans for 28 new flats in three blocks in Wigan

An application to the planning department could see three apartments blocks constructed on vacant land at Car Street, Platt Bridge.

The proposals would see 28 apartments built in the blocks, with each building varying between two and three storeys.

A report submitted by agent Grass Roots Planning on behalf of applicant Car Street Investments Ltd said the development will help transform the derelict parcel of land.

The report said: “It’s development has long been an aspiration of the site owner and the council.

“The applicant is committed to bring forward this development as soon as possible which will assist in regenerating the area whilst providing much needed quality housing.

Also included in the plan are 31 parking spaces in a “parking court” at the back of the site, while there would also be landscaping in the form of planters.

The site has been subject to a number of planning applications over the years, including the most recent planning permission for residential development in 2012.

A pre-application enquiry was also made in August 2019 to build three blocks of flats after concerns raised about the design and scale of the development These issues have since been addressed.

The report said: “The proposed development seeks to make efficient use of previously developed land, providing a high-quality development in a sustainable location.

“It will deliver a mix of high-quality apartments,in differing types set in a quality environment.

“The proposals have been formulated following an extensive pre-application process which underlines our commitment to providing a high-quality accessible development that will improve the appearance of the local area.”

It added: “Therefore, we hope that the council support the planning application and allow us to achieve the long-held goal of developing this site.”

The bid will be considered at a future meeting of the council’s planning committee.
