Plans put forward to demolish part of borough school
and live on Freeview channel 276
A planning application has been sent to Wigan Council to build a new three-storey teaching block at Fred Longworth High in Tyldesley.
It would replace an existing one and two-storey building which has become “structurally unsafe.”

Hide AdPlanning documents submitted as part of the application read: “The proposed teaching block is to replace a building which is now dilapidated and at the end of its viable use.
“The location is to the north-west corner of the existing main school campus facing the existing car park.
“The existing single storey teaching block consists of five teaching classrooms plus two admin rooms and circulation. The other area consists of circa 14 classrooms, toilets, circulation and plant rooms.”
During the construction phase, temporary classroom units would be erected as well as security fencing to segregate the parking and construction area from school use.

Hide AdThe documents add: “Six single classroom units will be located and positioned on existing external tarmac play and parking area.
“Temporary security fencing will be put up to segregate parking and construction area from school use.
“There is a proposed 26 week duration for temporary units to suit main construction program and modular unit delivery.
“18 car parking spaces will be temporarily decommissioned during decanting.”
