Colourful creations are popping up in windows in every community, helping to boost morale during the coronavirus lockdown.

To thank residents for sharing their designs, Wigan Council is giving away hundreds of colouring sets to make sure arty youngsters don’t run out.

Residents who stick their artwork to their bin on collection day could also be in with a chance of winning the top prize of a family trip to one of the North West’s top visitor attractions.

Ten runners up will each receive a £25 voucher to stock up on craft supplies.

Coun David Molyneux, leader of the council said: “At times like this it’s important that communities pull together, support one another and show kindness.

"I’ve been absolutely amazed by the generosity of our residents who are donating food, helping their neighbours and doing other good deeds.

“It’s great to see our children playing their part too by helping to boost morale by decorating their homes with rainbows and other colourful pictures.

“Our bin crews have received lots of thank you messages and drawings and we wanted to return those small acts of kindness with our own.”

Last month the council enacted its five-point response to Covid-19 that includes protecting the most vulnerable and maintaining essential services.

The council has also unveiled its #BeKind campaign, encouraging residents to be helpful, generous and thoughtful towards others and themselves, particularly in the current unprecedented situation we find ourselves.
