Wigan Council’s supported living and respite services have recently been assessed, meaning that all adult social care services directly provided by the council are now either “good” or “outstanding.”

Stuart Cowley, director for adult social care and health at Wigan Council said: “As part of The Deal, we are committed to connecting with people in the community and building services around an individual’s needs.

“These fantastic results are an example of that approach in action.

“We’re extremely proud to have a clean sweep of good and outstanding services across adult social care, which is as a result of the incredibly hard working people who go above and beyond to ensure vulnerable residents and their families are supported considerably.”

Coppull Lane respite service provides respite care for adults with learning disabilities, autism and physical disabilities and Wigan’s supported living service helps people with a learning disorder or autism to live independently.

In their reports, the CQC described the services as “skilled in working in person centred ways” and also in partnership with families and professionals.

Service users reported feeling “safe” and relatives expressed their satisfaction with the care their loved ones received. Mr Cowley added: “People are at the centre of what we do, so it’s great to hear that the people we are engaged with appreciate the care that goes into our staff’s

work.”
