A HIT and run driver is being hunted by police after mowing down a couple outside a pub.

The man and woman were sent flying into a hedge by the impact and both suffered injuries that needed hospital treatment.

Officers today appealed for information about the collision which took place at around 11.45pm on Friday June 7.

The couple, both 44 years old and from Skelmersdale, left The Beacon Inn pub on Beacon Lane in Dalton near Up Holland and began walking in the direction of Skelmersdale.

As they tried to cross the road a vehicle, which can only be described as being a light metallic colour, collided with both of them, knocking them into a hedge, before driving off.

They were both taken to Wigan Infirmary where the man was treated for a fractured hand, as well as bruising and whiplash.

The woman was treated for possible broken ribs, as well as severe bruising, grazes and whiplash.

Sgt Phil Elsden of Lancashire Police said: “I am appealing to anyone with any information about this incident to contact police.

“If you think you may know who the driver of this vehicle was then please come forward.”
