Red faces all round at saucy code blunder

WIGAN-based food giant Heinz has been forced to issue an apology after a QR code on the back of a ketchup bottle took punters not to information about the company but a porn website!

It was German customer Daniel Korrell who scanned the code on his tomato sauce for a contest and was instead directed to a site where women perform live adult shows for viewers.

A spokesman for Heinz said: “Heinz in Germany has apologised for the way in which an out of date QR code and website link to design a Ketchup label in 2014 has been reassigned to an adult content site.

“Clearly this was never our intention and we are taking steps to avoid this reoccurring.”

The re-assigned code took Mr Korrell to a site run by FunDorado who wasted no time in revelling in the unexpected publicity it gained when posted his wry complaint on Facebook.

A spokesman contacted Mr Korrell saying: “We give you a year at FunDorado free of charge! Just send us a private message. Purple greetings, your FunDorado team.”

However Mr Korrell declined to take the company up on the offer, instead suggesting the equivalent cash be given to charity instead.

In his complaint to Heinz he said the bottle may be a bit on the old side but there would be many others of a similar vintage still in homes. He said it was “incomprehensible” that Heinz hadn’t held onto to QR domain for longer.
