Parbold Equestrian Centre will offer savings of up to 30 per cent, to promote the budget retailer’s new equestrian clothing and equipment range.

The Rein It In campaign aims to make the sport more accessible to all, by offering lessons starting from as little as £21.

Over the past few years, nearly one fifth of ex-riders were forced to stop due to the cost.

This comes as no surprise when horse owners incur a maintenance cost of between £3,000 and £10,000 per year.

To combat this cost-barrier and boost wider involvement, Aldi’s lessons will provide a 30 per cent discount on standard rates to encourage old and new riders to get into the saddle, particularly appealing to parents who have been unable to introduce their kids to the sport due to expense.

Carrie Byrom, centre manager at Parbold Equestrian Centre, said the team were excited to get involved after being approached by Aldi.

“It’s really good for local business, and it’s good to get people out in the open air and try things they’ve not had the opportunity to do before,” said Carrie.

She also hoped the lessons would be a chance to dispel myths that horse riding is the preserve of the wealthy.

“People think you have to be loaded to get involved.

“It doesn’t have to be about being rich, it’s about building your way up and keeping going.”

Private riding lessons lasting 30 minutes will be available for both adults and children on a first come, first served basis.

The lessons will see riders taught a wide range of skills, such as learning how to mount/dismount a horse, developing balance and control, stopping and steering as well learning how to ask the horse to walk, trot, canter and halt.
