A MAN threw a remote control at his wife after she refused to give him money.

Michael Hedley, 59, of Minehead Avenue, Westleigh, admitted to assaulting Susan Hedley when he appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.

He was also charged with failing to surrendering to the court at the appointed time.

Mike Ardern, prosecuting, said that on May 8, the couple, who had been married for 30 years, were at home drinking with friends.

In the early hours of May 9, Hedley asked his wife for money, and when she said no, the pair argued,

He smashed her mobile phone on the floor and then threw a TV remote control at her, which hit her in the face, causing a cut to the bridge of her nose.

He also threatened to kill her.

Mr Ardern said: “Hedley was tipsy, but despite having less to drink than him, Mrs Hedley was more drunk. The argument escalated. He said he threw the remote in a temper as she was winding him up.”

Hedley, who has no previous convictions, was given a nine-month supervision order, told to attend an alcohol treatment programme.
