WIGAN borough residents are saving thousands on their energy bills, thanks to the Community Switch programme.
As part of the Deal for Tenants, residents of Wigan and Leigh Homes (WALH) have saved more than £133,000 since the programme, which helps tenants find cheaper energy suppliers, was introduced over two years ago.
On average each tenant saves just over £72 and 1,671 tenants have already taken advantage of the free and independent comparison service.
Direct debit customer Andrew Hughes, 39, from Bryn, switched both his electricity and gas provider through the Community Switch programme.
Mr Hughes previously spent £4,680 each year on his energy bills but has managed to reduce this figure by an impressive £435.
He said: “The scheme’s fantastic, we’ve saved so much money which means we’ve been able to afford more family days out with the children.”
Pre-payment customer Miss Jones is saving £115 each year by switching from Scottish Power to Utilita.
There are still 22,700 eligible households yet to sign up to the programme.

Callers should make sure they have a recent energy bill from your current supplier to hand, information about how much they spend on energy and how much energy they use.
