THE River Douglas has been placed on flood alert by the environment agency along two stretches in Wigan.

The river and other watercourses from Parbold to the confluence with the River Ribble including Rufford, Mawdesley, Hesketh and Longton plus from Horwich Star Vale to Appley Bridge including Addlington, Blackrod, Wigan, Standish, and Gathurst have all been placed on alert after heavy rain overnight and this morning.
