RL legends to take on Jack's charity ride

Charity Joining Jack has put together a team of “legends” who will get in the saddle for the fundraising event this summer.

Leading the way will be former Wigan Warriors player Andy Johnson, who was inspired by his nine-year-old son Jack to set up the charity and support research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

He will be joined by charity trustee and Wigan’s general manager Kris Radlinski; Wayne Godwin and Ewan Dowes, former Castleford and Hull players who pushed Jack in a buggy at the Wigan half-marathon; former St Helens players Paul Sculthorpe and Freddie Tuilagi; Widnes’s assistant coach and former Wigan player Mick Cassidy; and former Wigan and Great Britain player Steve Hampson.

Kris, who also played for Wigan and Great Britain, said: “Everyone knows that Joining Jack is a charity very close to my heart and having rode alongside Jack’s dad Andy in a few other bike rides, I was never going to miss Joining Jack’s very first own bike ride.

“It’s a great route and should be another amazing day for both Wigan and Joining Jack. There will be a quite a few of us riding as the Legends so it will be good to line up alongside a few former team mates - and opponents.”

Fundraisers have previously taken part in other bike rides to support Joining Jack, but this is the first time the charity has organised its own ride. Former Paralympic athlete Darren Kenny, who rode for Joining Jack in the 2015 Great Manchester Cycle, is donating a £1,500 bike for a raffle to which all participants riding for Joining Jack are eligible.
