A BUSY road out of Wigan has been immediately closed after fears it could fall through.
Engineers from United Utilities have been drafted in after a collapsed sewer was discovered on Preston Road in Standish, just north of Pepper Lane.
It had resulted in much of the road beneath the surface has been worn away and is in drastic need of being rebuilt.
As a result, the road has now closed in both directions with no specific set for it to re-open.
A spokesman for United Utilities say repair work is expected to last well into next week though.
