A MAJOR Wigan road, which has been closed all week, will re-open tomorrow.
Wigan Lower Road, in Standish Lower Ground, shut last weekend when a sewer collapse badly damaged a water main, forcing part of the road to collapse.
Initially, the area was manageable by temporary traffic lights but the size of the hole grew and it had to be closed.
A United Utilities spokesperson said that engineers had been working hard on the scene all week with a view to re-opening the road as soon as possible.
Work on the sewer and water main was completed yesterday and workers are spending today re-surfacing the area.
United Utilities say their work will be done by tomorrow morning, however a Wigan Council spokesman says they will need to attend the scene too.
It is hoped the road will be re-opened by midday but there is no guarantee it will be open ahead of Wigan Athletic’s game with West Ham.
