Admiral Taverns has agreed to submit an application with several minor variations to the licence for the Kings Arms in Ashton after concerns about loud music were raised by resident Michael Moulding.

The new application, expected to be submitted later this week, is expected to commit the licence holder to take action to curb the volume of noise coming from the Warrington Road premises and to restrict live music to Fridays, Saturdays and bank holidays.

Mr Moulding, who had threatened a full premises review application after previous efforts to curb noise were not deemed good enough, says he is delighted Admiral has volunteered the changes.

He said: “They have offered themselves to put protections in place for the local community and that is the right thing for the pub to do. I’m pleased they have recognised that.

“I’m only asking for what is already standard in most licensed premises and they have agreed to that.”

Wigan Council , which has been mediating, said Admiral was keen to resolve the issue.

Julie Middlehurst, the town hall’s service manager for regulatory services, said: “We are pleased that Admiral Taverns have agreed to submit a further minor variation. They have been very co-operative and have taken on board the advice provided.

“We expect to receive the minor variation application this week.”

Tom Jones, business development manager for the local area said: “We have been working closely with Wigan Council and the local community and together we have found a mutually beneficial solution for all the parties involved.”
