Save Standish protesters disappointed

DOZENS of Standish residents provided a noisy welcome for councillors arriving at Wigan’s council chamber last night.

As a result, the village is set to have 1,000 new homes built with protesters citing traffic problems and insufficient infrastructure as reasons against the proposal.

But council chiefs voted through the government inspector’s plans saying failure to do so would create a “planning free for all” in Wigan.
