SIX kind-hearted girls took to the treadmills to raise money in memory of Luke Rhoden.

The youngsters, aged six to 14, ran an accumulated marathon in just over four hours at the Powerbeck gym in Leigh.

They decided to take part after reading about Luke’s tragic death in Ibiza and wanted to help raise the funds needed to bring him home and pay for his funeral. Any excess funds would pay for legal fees in the event of civil investigations.

St Edmund Arrowsmith High pupils Elle Taylor, 14, Maisie Taylor, 12, Ellie Peoples, 11, and Devon Mae Barnes took part as well as Deanery high school pupil Tyler Hill, 11, and six-year-old Ellie Hill who attends Mab’s Cross Primary.

“Each year they do a triathlon for charity,” said running coach Tony Taylor. “This year they saw what had happened to Luke so they wanted to do something for that. They took it in turns doing a mile each on the treadmill and ran 26.2 miles in total.”
